Do you have any advice to help me with my weight loose.. I did lose about 2.5 inches off my waiste. But I really like to loose other 30 pounds.
Thank- you
Hello Paula,
First of all, congratulation on this new beginning and the pounds you already lost. I really wish you’ll find the motivation to achieve your goals (and maintain them).
Second of all, I’m fine thank you
1) Don’t be in a rush
Being fit is an everyday struggle, your priority should be achieving your goals while being healthy, not lose weight fast and put yourself in danger. There is nothing worse than going for the “starving diet” as you’ll soon gain more weight than you lost. Yes they give great and fast result, but your body cannot function and you will gain even more weight on the long term.
2) Never skip a meal
Your body is “smart” and “remember” your nutrition’s habit. Every time you skip a meal, your body will think that you will do it again another time. Therefore you will store more fat than usual the next meal(s), because your body will try to protect itself and make sure it has enough stored energy in case you skip a meal again. So yes skipping meal make you lose weight, but then, when you eat normally again (which you’ll have no choice to as you cannot starve yourself too long), you’ll store more fat now for the same meal than before. This is why people going on starving diet and skipping meals, end up losing weight, then gaining weight, etc… but they always get bigger and bigger over time.
3) Eat more often
On the contrary, eating 6 times a day is much more healthier and efficient to become fit. Your body will understand that you frequently provide him energy, therefore it has no reason to store too much fat to function. In addition, the fact that you eat often, you will feel like your not that hungry and you won’t eat that much.
4) Eat healthy
I should have started with this one as it is the most important. The priority when you need to lose weight is not the quantity, but the quality of your meal. Of course the size of the meal is important, but if you eat properly, then your body will get back in shape and become healthy at the same time. You need to eat every types of food, but some more than others. You need a little bit of sugar and non saturated fat, but you can eat way more vegetables and fruits. You need protein foods, but you can eat more white meat rather than red meat.
5) Eat slowly
Studies has shown that you feel full only 30 minutes after. Yes, your brain gets the information that you have eaten enough only half an hour later!!! So if you eat fast, then you will eat too much as your body doesn’t have time to process the information. A good trick to eat slower is to always put your fork down in between bites; it will slow you down naturally.
6) Never eat at fast food restaurant
If you have seen the movie “Supersize me“, then you know what I’m talking about! There is nothing good or healthy for your body in fast food restaurant. And when I say “nothing”, I mean “nothing”. You even have sugar in your salad (the sauce). Fast food becomes quickly addictive, but the less you go, the less you’ll want to eat there.
7) Avoid alcohool
Alcohol has a lot of calories which turn into bad fat, read “fat you store, not fat your body use for energy“. I understand living without alcohol might be hard (and boring… specially for your friends
), but then choose to drink red wine as it is way less caloric than beer or worse mixers (rum and coke, vodka tonic, etc…).
Drink a lot of water
Drinking water (or diet tea without sugar) is essential for your body to function. You need to stay hydrated, and water also cleanse your body. Another good benefit of water is that you’ll feel less starving if your fill your stomach with liquid, therefore you’ll want to eat less.
9) Eat healthy snacks
As I said, it is healthy to eat 6 times a day. 3 meals + 3 snacks. Of course I don’t mean cookies or ice cream when I say snacking. I mean healthy snacks like fruit or seeds or nuts. There is nothing better when you are hungry to eat an apple, it’s healthy and it will nourish you. We’ve all heard “An apple a day keep the doctor away“…. well it’s entirely true.
10) Exercise
Ideally, you’ll want to exercise 3 times a week, between 30 to 45 minutes each time. What is important with sports when you want to lose weight is consistency (same for healthy eating and losing weight in general). It is way more efficient to train twice a week 45 minutes than one time 2 hours. You need at least 30 minutes of cardio each time as your body will start using your stored fat only then.
Conclusion:
If you are really motivated to lose weight, start exercising, eat healthier and drop the bad habits. Stay motivated, because results will come slowly but surely… and once you have reached your targeted weight, then you need to maintain it!
My advice would be for you to start a protein diet for 2-3 weeks (you can check the best protein food list here) to quick start your weight loss, and then eat healthy and you’ll be fine.

Some really good information, I like the part about the body storing fat if you sometimes miss a meal, not really heard of this before, something I will look into.
Thanks Matt,
I’m glad you found the post useful.
Yes it’s amazing isn’t it? Our body has all these different kind of defense mechanism. I’m convinced that if we (re) learned how to listen to our body, we would be so much more healthier.
Cheers,
Nic
